President John F Kennedy’s dream came true on July 20th 1969 when Astronaut Neil Armstrong stepped on to the Moon with those now famous words “That’s one small step for a man. One giant leap for mankind”
Without the Space Race we as humans would not now be looking to the stars. We would feel that they were out of reach. But now, with the legacy of Apollo 11 as well as all of those that went before and after, space travel and colonies on other planets is a definite possibility. If not within our lifetime, certainly for future generations.
I was lucky enough to meet Buzz Aldrin, one of my childhood heroes. Unfortunately I was dumbstruck and gibberish came out. He just smiled and nodded!
Other astronauts on my photo that I have met are Scott Carpenter of Mercury Aurora 7, Fred Haise of Apollo 13 and Al Worden of Apollo 15.
