It’s quite possible that there are a few people who won’t agree with what I’m about to say, which I find very sad. I’m hoping that there are some that do agree though.
As everyone knows, most of the world is on lock-down due to the Coronavirus. Many people are stuck at home for the foreseeable future due to either being ill or living with someone who is. There are also those people who are high-risk who have been instructed to self-isolate.
Celebrities are not immune from this and many celebs have made known of their current condition on social media.
A few days ago Wonder Woman star, Gal Gadot, posted a video on Instagram.
In the clip she spoke about how she was at home, self-isolating. Gal then went on to show a video that she and a few celebrity friends had made. It was of them singing the John Lennon song ‘Imagine’. They took part to send out a fun, inspirational and uplifting message.
Unfortunately, for many people, it didn’t go down well. There have been many complaints about these “rich folks” making a belittling and condescending video whilst people are suffering and that these people who are out of touch with reality should be donating lots of money instead.
I don’t agree. At times like this in terms of the virus we are all equal. Covid-19 doesn’t discriminate when it comes to age, gender, sexuality, income, religion etc. Anyone is a target. As for the complaint regarding money and donating to charities, the majority of these celebs earned their money and many of them already donate to various charities.
Then there is the fact that another celeb, who I won’t name, has been very public on social media about the fact that he and his wife have donated $1,000,000 to charity at this time and urges others to do so. To me, this was nothing more than publicity for them. What’s the term? ‘Virtue Signalling’? Why not just say “hey, these people need help, so donate like we did!” Putting an amount down is a bit crass. Anyway, who is to say that these celebs have not donated? They may have done so but chose to keep it quiet!
A couple of years back there was a major incident where I live. A tower block caught fire and 72 people died. The community worked together through this and so did a few celebrities. Those locals that helped in various capacities did so without virtue signalling on social media. Yes, they asked for help with donations etc. but there were no ‘look what I’m doing aren’t I great’ posts. The same can be said for the celebs. Adele for example came down and got stuck in but you never saw any of that on the news unless she was asking for support.
So how about we give Gal and all the others a break? They were trying to do something uplifting and to cheer people up. Yes, some were a bit out of key but so what, they tried!
It cheered me up to no end! If you haven’t seen it, check it out below!
