Star Wars: The Ascendancy Trilogy~ Spoiler Free Review!

I’m a day late with this. Many apologies as I’ve been unwell.

Grand Admiral Thrawn- probably the most iconic character to come out of what we now know as ‘Star Wars Legends’. Thrawn first appeared in the 1990’s with Timothy Zhan’s Dark Empire trilogy that began it all. Thrawn eventually turned up in Star Wars: Rebels and then the new canon trilogy Star Wars: Thrawn.

Chaos Rising is the first part of the new Star Wars: The Ascendancy Trilogy, by Timothy Zhan and tells the story of Thrawn’s rise from insignificance within the Chiss Ascendancy, located in the Unknown Regions of the galaxy.

The tranquility of the Chiss Ascendancy is disrupted when an attack by an unknown assailant destroys large parts of the Chiss capital. A young and very promising military officer is assigned the task of hunting down whoever carried out the attack.

With a fleet at his back, he travels into the darkest regions of space to an area his people call The Chaos. It’s only then he realises not everything is as it seems.

If you are a Thrawn fan you are going to love this book. It’s the beginning of a great origin story for such a beloved character and acts as a good prequel to the previous trilogy and Star Wars Rebels.

Once again Timothy Zhan has worked his magic with a character he created almost 30 years ago and I can’t wait to read part 2!

As a side note, the design of the book, especially the “Chiss Blue” page edging is absolutely stunning.

Chaos Rising is available from all good booksellers now! Thanks to Lydia at Penguin Randomhouse for the advance copy to review.
