From A Certain Point Of View~ Empire Strikes Back Edition

First, I must apologise for the lateness of this post. The review copy of the book didn’t arrive until Thursday and I’ve had a cold most of the weekend.

As you may recall, back in 2017, Del Rey released the first volume of ‘From A Certain Point Of View’ which consisted of 40 stories by Star Wars authors and well known, celebrity fans such as Wil Wheaton.

These stories celebrated 40 years since the original film came out and each short story was from the point of view of a background or secondary character. You can read my original post on Volume One Here.

2020 is the 40th Anniversary of the release of ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ and Del Rey have released Volume 2 of ‘From A Certain Point Of View’ this time focussing on background or secondary characters from ESB.

Well known names such as Beth Revis, Alexander Reed and Cavan Scott are among the 40 different writers providing short stories.

My favourite so far is ‘Rogue Two’ written by Gary Whitta, who wrote the story for the film ‘Rogue One’. Interestingly enough, Gary’s contribution to volume one of FACPOV ‘Raymus’, which bridged the gap between the end of ‘Rogue One’ and the start of ‘A New Hope’ was my favourite from that set of stories.

‘Rogue Two’ also links back to the Rogue One movie but tells the creation of Rogue Squadron by Luke Skywalker from the point of view of Rogue Two pilot Zev Senesca, the same man that located Solo and Skywalker after their night camping on Hoth. It’s a touching story that links nicely once again back to the adventures of Jyn Erso, Cassian Andor and co.

Other great stories include the story of a Rebel Alliance ecologist and her feelings on the treatment of Tauntauns by the rebels and the story of that moment in ESB when Captain Piett became Admiral Piett.

If you love Star Wars then this book is for you. I personally can wait for the Return of the Jedi edition. If the quality of that book is the same as the first two then we are in for a treat!

‘From A Certain Point Of View is available now from all good booksellers. It will make an excellent Christmas/Hannukah gift for any Star Wars fan out there.

Thanks to Lydia at Penguin Books UK for the preview copy of the book!
