For those of you
unfortunate old enough to remember the original Star Wars Holiday Special in 1978 probably remember how bad it was.
If you haven’t seen it and are really desperate to, you can find it on YouTube here:- The Star Wars Holiday Special 1978
The one good thing it did was to introduce the festival of ‘Life Day’ to the Star Wars universe as well as Chewie’s Family. His father Itchy, his wife Malla, and his son Lumpy. Life Day was a time of celebrating family, joy and harmony and was traditionally celebrated with feasting, music and lots of coloured lights.
This year, LEGO released a new Holiday Special set once again on Life Day, shortly after the events of ‘The Rise of Skywalker’ and begins with Rey attempting to teach Finn how to be a Jedi.
I won’t spoil the story but suffice to say Rey, with BB-8, ends up on a mission to find out the best way to help Finn. What follows is a hilarious, often nostalgic, romp through Star Wars history where Rey encounters a whole host of characters from the Star Wars universe.
All this takes place whilst Finn, Rose, C3P0, R2D2, D-0 and a very camp Poe, are helping Chewie prepare to celebrate Life Day by organising a party.
Some of the original cast, Anthony Daniels, Kelly Marie Tran and Billy Dee Williams return to voice their roles whilst others are performed by a variety of voice actors.
If I had not checked IMDB then I honestly would have believed that Daisy Ridley was voicing Rey, but that honour fell to Helen Sadler who voiced Rey in a number of other Star Wars animated shows.
Matthew Wood, who voiced General Grievous in the Prequel Trilogy provides the voice of D-0 and Kylo Ren.
The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special 2020 can be found now on Disney+ worldwide and is definitely worth a watch!
